SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State concluded its non-conference schedule with a solid 6-1 victory over UTEP on Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Juniors Rishonia Israel-Lewis and
Hana Kvapilova, along with sophomore
Josefina Cassara led the Bobcats with two victories on the day.

The Bobcats (5-5) made light work of the Miners (4-9, 0-2 C-USA) in doubles play, beginning with R. Israel-Lewis and Kvapilova defeating sophomore Kathleen Percegona and junior Maria Aveiga 6-2 on the top court.  Cassara and partner, junior
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez clinched the doubles point for the Bobcats with a 6-4 win over senior Vanessa Valdez and junior Lina Sáchica on court No. 2. The win is Cassara and Murcia-Rodriguez's first win together in the spring and they improve to 2-0 overall this year.Â

R. Israel-Lewis and Kvapilova put the Bobcats ahead 3-0 with a pair of straight-set wins on the top two courts R. Israel-Lewis defeated Valdez 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 1 and Kvapilova defeated junior Erandi Martinez on court No. 2 6-2, 6-3. Both R. Israel-Lewis and Kvapilova have a team-high six wins in singles play this dual season.

Freshman Thássane Abrahim put UTEP on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win against
Chacadyah Israel-Lewis on the fifth singles flight, but junior
Andrea Fuchs clinched the match for Texas State with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Percegona on court No. 4.

Other victories for the Maroon and Gold were Cassara's 6-3, 6-3 win on court No. 3 against Sachica, and sophomore
Renata Gonzalez's tiebreaker win against freshman Elena Dibattista (6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-4))Â Â Â
on the sixth singles flight.

Texas State enters Sun Belt Conference competition next weekend and will play its first two matches at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The club will open the weekend with a 10 a.m. match on Saturday, March 14 against South Alabama, and will challenge Troy at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 15.Â
