Baseball Hosts Lamar for Weekend Series

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (3-2) hosts Lamar (2-2) for a three-game series at Bobcat Ballpark beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday's contest is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. start time and the series finale on Sunday will see first pitch at 1 p.m.
 
Friday's and Sunday's games will be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 FM with play-by-play from Brant Freeman. Live stats will be available for all three games while there won't be a video stream.

SERIES VS. CARDINALS
Lamar leads the all-time series over Texas State 39-29. The Bobcats have won the last four series and gone 11-4 in that time, including a 2-1 mark in the Southland Conference Tournament. When playing in San Marcos, TXST is 14-19 against the Cardinals. Last time the teams met was May 4-6, 2012 at Bobcat Ballpark.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Texas State is coming off a 7-5 loss at Houston Baptist. The offense was stagnant until the ninth when the Bobcats scored four runs, three of them coming on a pinch-hit home run by John Wuthirch. The junior outfielder paces the team with a slash line of .400/.538/.800.
 
Both Cole Coffey (.333) and Tucker Redden (.364) are hitting over .300 and have driven in a team-high four runs apiece. Coffey leads the team with six base hits and 10 total bases.
 
The pitching staff enters the weekend averaging just over a strikeout per inning with 45 in 44 innings. Texas State is holding opponents to a .229 batting average and walked just 10 batters.
 
ABOUT LAMAR
Lamar comes in after dropping a midweek game at Texas 6-1 on Wednesday. Last weekend, the Cardinals took two of three games at home from Rhode Island. In the Southland Conference preseason poll, LU was picked to finish 12th in the 13-team league.
 
Four Cardinals are hitting over .300 led by Kelby Weyler at .533. He is also tied for the lead with four RBI with Reese Duran. Both JC Correra and Durran are hitting .438 with one double. The fourth Cardinal over .300 is Avery George at .353.
 
Trevin Michael, Friday night's starter, leads the team with 10 strikeouts and has not issued a walk. Both wins have been earned by relievers. Max Mize (1-1, 2.45 ERA) has made a team-high three appearances while Dylan Johnson (1-0, 4.50 ERA) has totaled four innings of relief in two games.
