SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (3-1) hits the road for the first time in the 2020 season with a midweek tilt at Houston Baptist (0-4) on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Husky Field. It will be the Bobcats first time playing the Huskies on the road since Mar. 1, 1992.

Tucker Redden leads the team with a slash line of .500/.625/1.000. Both he and
Cole Coffey have hit a home run and driven in four runs. Coffey and Shuffield pace the team with four hits apiece and are two of seven players to have twice.

Isaac Ponce is scheduled get the ball to start on the rubber and make his collegiate debut. He will be the third freshman Bobcat to take to the hill on the young season, joining
Tony Robie (1-0, 13.50 ERA) and
Otto Wofford (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 2.0 IP).

So far this season, Texas State's pitching staff sports a 2.25 ERA over 36 innings with 37 strikeouts and just nine walks.

ABOUT HOUSTON BAPTIST
Houston Baptist dropped two games apiece to Northern Colorado and Texas Tech over the weekend in Lubbock. The Huskies were picked to finish last in the 13-team Southland Conference preseason poll. Wednesday is the team's home opener and first of four straight at home.

Johnny Gonzales is hitting a team-high .357 with two doubles and one triple. He is one of three players to have scored twice this season, along with Christian Dumont and Todd Jackson. Both Ryne Edmondson and Dumont have a team best two RBI.

Brent Pronger has made one appearance on the mound this year, that being a relief appearance in the season opening 5-1 loss at Texas Tech. He went 3.1 innings with two strikeouts while giving up a run on four hits and three walks. Dylan Murphy has pitched in a team-high two games, totaling 4.1 innings with a strikeout, three walks but no hits or runs.

TROUT ERA
The
Steven Trout era of Texas State baseball began with a 4-3 victory on Friday and the team went 3-1 for the weekend. Trout is the fourth Bobcat head coach to win his first game in charge and to start the first season with a 3-1 mark.

Trout enters the 2020 season as the 25 youngest head coach in Division I baseball. He is also the youngest coach in the state of Texas and in the Sun Belt Conference.
