SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team concludes its five-game homestand on Tuesday when it welcomes Texas to Bobcat Ballpark for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

Coming into the game, the Bobcats are 27-13 on the season and have six straight. The Longhorns are 24-18 overall, have lost three straight and are 1-4 in their last five games.

Scouting Texas State
Texas State completed a sweep of Arkansas State this weekend that was capped off by a
Ryan Newman walk-off three-run home run in the 10th inning of Saturday's series finale. The Bobcats are 7-2 in midweek games and have won their last four.

Jaxon Williams leads the Sun Belt Conference with 47 runs scored, is second in hits (55), fourth in on-base percentage (.469) and walks (31) and sixth in batting average (.353). The junior infielder has also driven in 22 runs and stolen five bases.

Both
Jaylen Hubbard and
Dalton Shuffield have recorded 53 hits apiece. Hubbard has scored 43 times, is second on the team with 11 doubles and has 22 RBIs. His five home runs are tied for the most with
Skyler Valentine. Shuffield comes in hitting .344 and is a perfect 8-for-8 stealing bases.

Will Hollis paces TXST with 33 walks, 30 RBIs and 12 doubles. He has hit three home runs and scored 27 times as well.

Also batting over .300 are
Travon Benton (.313) and
John Wuthrich (.315). Benton has driven in 23 runs while Wuthrich has hit seven doubles and four home runs to plate 28 runs and score 25 times himself.

Scheduled to start on the mound Tuesday is
Garrett Herrmann. It will be the junior right-hander's ninth midweek start of the season. He enters the game with a 4-1 record, 4.46 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 36.1 innings of work.

Scouting Texas
Texas comes into San Marcos having been swept on the road this past weekend at Oklahoma State. The Longhorns most recent win was last Tuesday at home against Lamar by the score of 7-2. They are 7-4 this season in midweek games and 6-11 in road contests.

Freshman outfielder Eric Kennedy leads the team with a .279 batting average and three triples. He ranks second with 38 hits, 31 runs scored and seven stolen bases.

Lance Ford comes in hitting .275 with 20 runs scored and eight RBIs. Both Ryan Reynolds and Austin Todd have hit a team-high nine doubles. Todd has hit three homers and driven in a team best 35 runs.

Scoring a team-high 37 times has been Duke Ellis. He is also a perfect 11-for-11 stealing bases.

Tuesday's starter is still TBA. Last week against the Cardinals, UT started Matteo Bocchi and got a five scoreless innings out of him with three strikeouts and three hits. For the season, he is 2-0 with a save, 1.75 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 25.2 innings spanning 13 games that includes two starts.

Cole Quintanilla has recorded a team-high four saves. He enters the contest with a 2-1 record, 3.12 ERA and has struck out 33 in 26 innings over 16 appearances. Making three saves has been Kamron Fields, who is 1-1 with a 4.34 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 20.2 innings over 15 relief appearances.

Tristan Stevens has made a team-high 18 relief outings. The sophomore right-hander sports a 5.23 ERA, 2-1 record and 17 strikeouts in 15.1 innings. Also making double-digit appearances out of the bullpen has been Donny Diaz (0-1, 4.61 ERA, 17 K).

All-Time Series
Texas leads the all-time series 49-11 over Texas State. The Longhorns have won five straight meetings including a 6-1 victory last season in Bobcat Ballpark. The last win for the Bobcats was on Mar. 21, 2017 by the score of 11-10 in 10 innings.
