PREVIEW: Texas State Hones in on UIW, ULM

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State University softball team (31-10, 12-2 SBC) will travel to San Antonio to take on the Incarnate Word Cardinals (12-24, 5-13 SLC) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Over the weekend, the 23rd ranked Bobcats will host ULM (22-17, 9-9 SBC) in a three-game set. Saturday will feature a doubleheader with game one starting at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's first pitch is scheduled for noon from Bobcat Softball Stadium.

Last Time Out for the Bobcats
• No. 24 Texas State dropped its first Sun Belt Conference series of the season, fall in two of three games against No. 21 Louisiana.
• The Bobcats took game one of the series behind a dominant effort in the circle from senior pitcher Randi Rupp. She spun eight shutout innings to earn her second career victory over the Ragin' Cajuns.
• Offensively, Brianna Sannem hit the game-winning RBI double in the top of the eighth inning to score Sierra Steimel. Hailey MacKay added a few insurance runs, hammering a three-run blast over the left field wall at Lamson Park.
• Louisiana rallied back to take games two and three of the series , winning game two by a score of 5-1 before clinching the series with a 3-1 victory on Monday afternoon.

Texas State Heads to San Antonio
• The Bobcats will meet up with Incarnate Word in a midweek matchup on Wednesday evening. Incarnate Word holds a season record of 12-24 and is 5-13 inside the Southland Conference.
               Inside the Series
• Texas State holds a commanding lead over the Cardinals, winning 10 of the 13 matchups between the two schools on the softball field, including a 6-3 victory back on March 13 earlier this season.
Bailee Carter and Tara Oltmann carried the offensive burden in the last meeting, combining for five RBI while Meagan King earned her first career victory, pitching 3.2 innings in relief.

Texas State Welcomes ULM
• Texas State will host ULM in a Sun Belt Conference series of two teams in the top-five of the SBC standings. Game on of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. start. The series will conclude with a noon first pitch on Sunday.
               Inside the Series
• The Bobcats hold a slight advantage over the Warhawks in the all-time series between the two schools, winning 40 games compared to the 35 ULM victories.
• A season ago in Monroe, The Bobcats won the three-game series, taking games one and three. Rupp tossed a two-hit shutout in game one while Ariel Ortiz and Jaelyn Young each drove in two runs to secure a 5-0 victory. In game three, Rupp earned her second win of the series, going 7.0 innings and allowing just one unearned run.

TXST Honored by the SBC
• The Bobcats have been honored with Player/Pitcher of the Week honors four times from the Sun Belt Conference so far this season.
Hailey MacKay was the first Bobcat to earn player of the week accolades, doing so on Feb. 20) after a terrific weekend at Arizona State. Ariel Ortiz followed suit on March 13 as player of the week after tearing the cover off the ball in a weekend series against Georgia State.
Randi Rupp has won pitcher of the week four times during her senior campaign, Feb. 28, March 20, April 3, April 10 and April 17. She was honored on March 20 following a 3-0 week that included a perfect game, a win against a ranked opponent and her first save of the season.

Senior pitcher Randi Rupp was named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award on April 5, 2018. She was selected as one of 10 finalists who were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier this month. Nationwide fan voting has begun to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through May 14. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipient for softball will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Women's College World Series® in Oklahoma City, May 31 through June 6.
