MOBILE, Ala. –Texas State softball's offense fell quiet in a 3-1 loss to South Alabama on Friday night.
How It Happened:
Texas State was retired in order in the first three innings, including six of the nine batters via strikeout.
Analisa Soliz started in the circle for Texas State, going on to count the loss for her first loss of the season. She pitched 2.1 innings allowing two hits on two runs with two walks and a strikeout. The first hit came against the second batter she faced, a single in the first inning. She got out of the first inning with no runs allowed, though, after Olivia Branstetter lined into a double play.
Soliz recorded her lone strikeout of the outing in the 2
nd inning, also surrendering one of her walks in that inning. Still though, she allowed no runs to score.
Soliz walked the lead off batter of the third inning, though, who came around to score after a double and an RBI ground out.
Emma Strood came in to pitch before the ground out, hitting a batter and allowing another single to give the Jaguars a 2-0 lead after three.
Karmyn Bass recorded the first hit of the game for the Bobcats in the 4
th, a double in the 4
th. The Bobcats second base runner came on the next at-bat after an intentional walk of
Aiyana Coleman. The pair were left stranded after a
Harley Vestal line out.
South Alabama added their third run via sac fly in the fourth after the runner reached on a single.Â
Both sides were retired in order in the 5
th.
Both sides placed runners on in the 6
th, but no more runs got across the plate.Â
Texas State tried to rally in the 7
th, but fell short. Coleman was walked to lead off the inning, then ran for by Mel Reeves. Following that up was a
Harley Vestal single, the pair advancing to second and third on a wild pitch. After
Kat Zarate was walked, the bases were loaded.
Bailee Slack got a pinch-hit walk to walk a run in. With the bases still loaded, though, the Bobcats were unable to put any more runs away. With a
Sami Hood lineout and a
Keely Williams fly out, South Alabama solidified the win.
After today's loss, Texas State is now 23-16 on the season and fall to 5-6 in Sun Belt play.
