Vestal's 3 RBI Night Helps Bobcats to 3-0 Win

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball swept the I-35 series with a 3-0 win over UTSA on Tuesday night. The win came with a complete game shutout effort from Emma Strood and a three hit, three RBI night from Harley Vestal

Vestal was responsible for all three runs on the night with her three hits, her first three-hit game of her career.

How It Happened:
Emma Strood started in the circle for the Bobcats, she tossed the complete game earning a shutout and allowing just three hits and striking out eight batters and walking none. She started the game with two strike outs in the first inning.

Texas State got two hits and loaded the bases in the first, but a strikeout from Aiyana Coleman left the runners stranded.

Strood retired the side in order in the second inning with two more strikeouts, adding another in the third as well.

It took until the fifth inning for Texas State to open the scoring, beginning with a leadoff walk of Keely Williams. She came around to score on a sac-bunt and eventually Vestal's RBI single.

After Strood retired the side in order in the 6th, Texas State carried that momentum into the 6th inning where they scored two more runs. It began with a single from Kelnar to lead it off, who scored alongside Sydney Harvey on Vestal's double. Harvey had reached from a single of her own.

Strood again retired the side in order in the top of the 7th to end the ball game and preserve the 3-0 win.

After today's win, Texas State is now 25-16 on the season and stay at 6-6 in Sun Belt play.
