SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team concluded a three-game weekend at Bobcat Softball Stadium with a victory over UTSA by a score of 4-1 and a 1-1 tie with Texas A&M International. The Bobcats are 4-0-1 through five games in the fall schedule.
GAME 1
TEXAS STATE 4, UTSA 1
The Bobcats found early gold, scoring three runs in the opening frame. Senior
Mari Cranek reached on an infield single to shortstop before
Tara Oltmann advanced her to second on a failed fielder's choice play. Junior slugger
Hailey MacKay blasted a three-run home run to left field to give the Cats a 3-0 lead after one inning.
Junior
Haleigh Davis led off the second inning and reached via an error on the Roadrunner shortstop. Davis quickly advanced to third via a stolen base and a UTSA error. Junior
Bailee Carter executed a perfect squeeze play to plate the fourth and final Bobcat run of the game.
Presumed 2019 ace, sophomore
Meagan King tossed a complete game. She scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out seven UTSA batters. King did not issue a walk.
GAME 2
TEXAS STATE 1, TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL 1
In a pitcher's duel, Texas State was able to strike first for the second-straight game. The Cats scored in the second without recording a hit. Sophomore
ArieAnn Bell and freshman Caitlyn Rogers were issued back-to-back walks before a groundout by sophomore
Kylie Matula moved both runners into scoring position. Freshman Samara Lagway loaded the based with a walk to set the stage for junior
Christiana McDowell. She bounced into a fielder's choice to plate Bell from third for the only run of the game.
Junior Dalilah Barrera followed the lead of King as 'Pudge' pitched a complete game and yielded just one earned run. She allowed just three hits, walked a pair and struck out 11 batters. Â
Texas State will continue the fall slate with a nine inning game against Incarnate Word at 4 p.m. on Nov. 2 at Bobcat Softball Stadium All home games are open to the public, and admission for the fall schedule will be free.
