SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball opens four-game homestand on Wednesday as the Bobcats will play host to No. 12/13 Baylor at 6:00 p.m. The Bobcats enter the game with the nation's No. 28 RPI, while Baylor holds the ninth spot on the list.

Texas State vs. Baylor
• Texas State hosts Big 12 foe Baylor in a midweek nonconference game Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Bobcats enter the game ranked No. 28 in the latest NCAA RPI, while the Bears hold the No. 9 slot.
  Inside the Series
• Baylor leads the all-time series 38-16, including a 14-7 record in San Marcos, 20-8 record in Waco and a 4-1 mark at neutral sites.
• The Bears have won six straight in the series. Texas State's last win in the series came on Feb. 24, 2013 by a 1-0 final.
• The teams last met on April 20 of last year with Baylor claiming a 3-0 win in Waco.
 
BOBCATS' STRIKEOUT CANCER GAME SET FOR APRIL 12 VS. BAYLOR
• Texas State softball will support the NFCA Strikeout Cancer initiate on April 12 against Baylor. The game, which is proudly presented by Phi Kappa Psi - Texas Gamma, will feature the Bobcats wearing pink jerseys in support of the initiative. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and will have a chance to donate to Pink Heals Hays County, which champions the mission of inspiring communities to come together for the love of their people and not one specific disease or cause. Last Time Out For the Bobcats
• Texas State earned a three-game sweep at South Alabama on April 8 and 9, moving its current win streak to four.
• The Bobcats shutout South Alabama in all three games, posting 5-0, 1-0 and 3-0 wins.
Randi Rupp earned all three victories for the Bobcats, while allowing only two runners to reach third in her 16.2 inning in the circle. Ariel Ortiz set the program home run record with the 30th of her career and Taylor Webb went yard twice in the triumphs.
• Texas State concluded the series with 18 hits, including 10 for extra bases.
 
Rupp Nets Plethora Of Awards After Dominate Week
Randi Rupp pitched in each of Texas State's four games during the Week of April 5-9, going 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 29 strikeouts and a .157 opponent batting average, while allowing only 14 hits and issuing six walks in 25.2 innings of work. She threw three complete games with two being shutouts and the final 2.2 inning of a shared shutout.
• For her efforts, the junior was honored as the:

            • Sun Belt Conference Community Coffee Pitcher of the Week
            • CollegeSportsMadness.com Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week
• Rupp started the week with a 9.0 inning, seven-strikeout performance against Texas. She allowed only five hits and issued two walks to earn her third straight win over the Longhorns.
• Rupp opened the South Alabama series with a 12-strikeout, complete-game shutout. She scattered six hits and only allowed two runners to reach third base.
• In game two against USA she came on in relief with the score locked 0-0 in the fifth with one out and a runner on first and promptly induced a fly out before ending the inning with a strikeout. She finished the contest with her 16th strikeout of the doubleheader with the potential tying run on third.
• Rupp started and went the distance in game three at South Alabama for her second complete-game shutout of the weekend and seventh of the season. She struck out six, while holding the Jaguars to two base hits. Her final strikeout of the day (second out in the seventh) was her 200th of the season.
 
Ortiz Breaks Career Home Run Record
• It took Ariel Ortiz 35 games into her junior season to become Texas State's all-time home run leader with 30 career round-trippers.
• The junior shortstop now has 12 home runs this season (tied for second on the TXST single-season list), 12 dingers her freshman year (also good for second on the TXST single-season list) and six as a sophomore.
• Ortiz cleared the bases with her record-setting homer in the fifth inning of game one of the April 8 doubleheader at South Alabama, boosting the Bobcat to a 4-0 lead. The junior sent Destin Vicknair's 2-1 offering into center field where it was lost in the sun by the Jaguar defender and ricocheted to the wall in right center. Ortiz, who was running hard out of the box, crossed home for her without a throw to the plate.
 
45.2 Innings
• In shutting out South Alabama in three games on April 8-9, Texas State ran its streak to 45.2 innings without allowing a Jaguar runner to cross the plate -- a span of six complete games and 3.2 innings. South Alabama las scored a run against Texas State in the fourth inning of a 3-1 defeat on April 23, 2016 in San Marcos.
• The three wins over South Alabama moved the Bobcats' win streak against the club to nine straight and the all-time series to 9-1 in TXST's favor.
 
Davis Hits First Career Homer
• Freshman catcher Haleigh Davis hit her first collegiate home run on April 9 at South Alabama. In the second inning the Houston native sent Destin Vicknair's 1-2 offering over the left-field wall for her only hit of the day. The dinger was the second of back-to-back jacks by the Bobcats as Taylor Webb went yard four pitches prior.
• Davis became the sixth different Bobcats to homer this season.
 
Webb's .547/.750/1.714 Week
Taylor Webb went a combined 4-for-7 with five walks and a sac bunt for a .571/.750/1.714 slash line in Texas State's four games last week (April 5-9).
• She finished the week with two RBI and two runs scored via two solo home runs at South Alabama. Each of her four hits went for extra bases.
• Webb's week at the plate raised her season average 35 points to a .254.
