Bobcats Host App. State in SBC Home Opener

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball returns to Bobcat Softball Stadium on Saturday and Sunday (March 18-19), hosting Sun Belt Conference foe Appalachian State. Bobcats and Mountaineers are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a single game Sunday at noon.

Texas State vs. Appalachian State
• Texas State plays its first home Sun Belt Conference series of the season on Saturday and Sunday against Appalachian State. The Bobcats were selected second in the 10-team league's preseason poll, while App. State was picked 10th.
  Inside the Series
• Texas State is 6-0 against Appalachian State, sweeping the Mountaineers in San Marcos in 2015 and again in Boone last season.
• In the six games the Bobcats have outscored the Mountaineers 50-13, including 12-0 and 14-5 wins in Boone last year.
 
Last Time Out For the Bobcats
• Texas State took advantage of five Houston errors and seven strong innings in the circle from Randi Rupp to shut out the host-Cougars 7-0 on Wednesday evening.
• The Bobcats improve to 17-4 on the season, while Houston suffered its first loss in nine games in dropping to 14-12 overall.
• Rupp finished with her fourth complete-game shutout of the season in pushing her record to 11-2. The junior righty struck out seven, while scattering four hits and issuing two assists.
• Kimberlin Naivar and Ariel Ortiz each finished with two hits each as the Bobcats counted seven total base knocks. Naivar also scored twice, as did Christiana McDowell.
 
Scoring First ... And Protecting Leads
• Texas State has scored first in 17 of its 21 games, winning 15 of those contests. Through 21 games, the Bobcats have scored 15 runs in the first innings.
• The Bobcats have also been good at protecting its leads through the latter stages of games. TXST is 13-1 when leading after four innings, 12-0 when leading a five innings and 13-0 when leading after six innings ... On the flip side, TXST's opponents are 1-2 when leading after four, 2-0 when leading after five and 3-0 when leading after six.
 
Coming Home
• Despite boasting a 17-4 overall record, Texas State has only played six games inside the friendly confines of Bobcat Softball Stadium, posting a 5-1 record.
• The Bobcats opened the season at home with five games in the CenturyLink Classic from Feb. 10-12. The team then played 15 of 16 away from home -- only hosting Incarnate Word for a single game March 8 (W, 11-2).
 
Streak Snappers
• Each of Texas State's last two opponents entered their contests against the Bobcats on multi-game win streak only to have the streak halted. Coastal Carolina entered the first game of the March 11 doubleheader on a 12-game win streak only to fall 3-0. Houston has won eight straight prior suffering a 7-0 setback to TXST on March 15.
