DeMarini Desert Classic Recap
• Texas State went 2-1 at the 2017 DeMarini Desert Classic last weekend (Feb. 17-19) in Las Vegas. After falling 5-3 to No. 25 BYU to start the tournament, the Bobcats bounced back with wins over Hawai'i (6-1) and Colorado State (3-0).
•
Jaelyn Young led the Bobcats at the plate, going 3-for-7 for a .429 average. Of her three hits, two cleared the outfield fence in the 6-1 win over Hawai'i. She finished the tournament with six total RBI and a 1.286 slugging percentage.

Randi Rupp has started the 2017 season picking up where she left off in 2016. The junior, who finished last year with 335 strikeouts, started the 2017 campaign with an 11-strikeout performance against Abilene Christian. She finished opening weekend with 24 strikeouts, then added an additional 16 at the DeMarini Desert Classic. Her 40 total strikeouts rank second in the Sun Belt and 20th in the NCAA.
Long Ball
• Texas State hitters
Jaelyn Young,
Ariel Ortiz and
Taylor Webb combined for seven home runs in the season's first eight games. Young leads the Bobcats charge with three homers, while Ortiz and Webb each have two.
• The Bobcats' 0.88 home runs per game average ranks 54th in the NCAA and lead the Sun Belt.
• Individually, Young's three round-trippers are tied for second in the league and 31st in the nation.
Glove Work
• Texas State ranks eighth in the NCAA with a .986 field percentage. The Bobcats have committed just three errors in 161 attempts this season. TXST's fielding acumen has led to only one unearned run being scored through 52.2 inning of play.
