SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team returns to Strahan Coliseum for a four-game homestand that begins on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against UT Arlington. The contest will be shown on national television on ESPN2.
Calling the game on TV will be John Brickley (play-by-play) and Malcolm Huckaby (analyst).
Holding a slim 31-30 lead in the all-time series are the Mavericks. The last meeting came in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which the Bobcats won 68-62. That victory snapped an eight-game skid in the series and second in the last 12 meetings.
The Bobcats (9-11, 3-8 SBC) look to right the ship after dropping all four games the past two weeks on the road. Six of their final nine contests of the regular season will be at home where the Cats are 6-2 this year.
Leading Texas State in scoring at 12.9 points per game and having reached double-digit points in 12 straight contests is
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury. After his fourth double-double of the season,
Emani Gant is putting up 12.5 points and grabbing a team-high 7.5 rebounds per contest.
The third Bobcat to average at least 10 points a game is
Ethan Montalvo at 10.9. He paces the squad with 40 made three-pointers and an 87.2 free throw percentage.
In the past three games,
Cameron Naylor has posted 12.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg and 1.0 spg. The senior forward has made five baskets in each of the contests as well.
For the Mavericks (15-7, 6-5 SBC), Tuesday marks the final of five consecutive road games. They are coming off a 21-point victory on Saturday at Georgia State to snap a four-contest losing streak.
Kevin Hervey sports a team best 18.1 ppg and 9.8 rpg but was lost for the season after a new injury. Erick Neal leads active players on the roster in scoring at 13.9 ppg. He is also dishing out a league-high 5.9 assists per game while making 46 three-pointers and recording 34 steals.
Jalen Jones enters with 11.9 ppg and leads UTA in field goal (46.0), three-point (37.5) and free throw (78.7) percentages. Starting the last two games after coming off the bench for the first 20 is Kaelon Wilson. He comes in averaging 9.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Drew Charles is first among active players with 7.3 rpg and 16 blocks.
Entering the game, the Mavericks are second in the SBC in scoring at 81.2 points per contest but are eight with a 42.0 field goal percentage.
