STATESBORO, Ga. – The last of four consecutive road games for the Texas State men's basketball team takes place Saturday at Georgia Southern in the Hanner Fieldhouse with tip scheduled for 6 p.m. CT. It also marks the beginning of the second half of Sun Belt Conference play for the Bobcats.
Entering the game, Texas State is 9-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play while the Eagles are 9-12 on the season and 5-6 in the SBC.
In the first meeting this season in Strahan Coliseum,
Ethan Montalvo scored a then season-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting with four three-pointers in the 80-66.
Anthony Roberson blocked a career-high four shots and matched his career best of 12 rebounds for the second time this year. The 80 points are the most for the Bobcats this season against a Division I opponent.
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury paces Texas State offensively at 12.9 points per game while also contributing 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. He has scored at least 10 in the past 11 games, the longest streak for a Bobcat this season.
Emani Gant contributes 12.4 ppg and is grabbing a team-high 7.3 rpg. The senior big man is making a team best 48.8 percent of his shots.
Also averaging double digits in points is Montalvo at 10.6 per game. Of his 59 made field goals, 38 have been three-pointers. He is shooting a team best 39.2 percent from beyond the arc and 84.5 percent at the charity stripe.
Ojai Black has been on a roll his past four games dishing the rock. He has handed out 19 assists, 4.8 per contest, while turning the ball over only four times.
Pacing GS with 17.9 ppg, 3.5 apg, 43.6 field goal percentage and 77.8 free throw percentage is Tookie Brown. The freshman guard is second on the squad with 42 steals. Fellow classmate Ike Smith contributes 12.8 ppg with 34 made threes and 5.0 rpg.
Mike Hughes is netting 13.6 points per contest with a team best 42 treys. He has also recorded a team-high 42 steals. The sophomore is making 41.0 percent of his shots with a 36.5 percent from long range.
