SAN MARCOS, Texas – The third game of a four-game home stand in Strahan Coliseum for the Texas State men's basketball team takes place Thursday night when the Bobcats host UL Monroe at 7:30 p.m.
Texas State is coming off a one-point victory last Thursday over Appalachian State to snap a five-game skid. The Bobcats are 10-12 overall and 4-9 in the Sun Belt Conference. They are currently ninth in the league standings, 1.5 games back of both Georgia State and South Alabama.
Leading the all-time series 25-18 and winners of the last three meetings are the Warhawks. ULM won the first meeting this season by 13 points nearly two and a half weeks ago. Texas State's last victory in the series was on Feb. 5, 2014 at home by the score of 65-57.
Senior forward
Emani Gant had his first solid performance in nearly a month against the Mountaineers, posting a career-high 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. His final two points at the free throw line proved to be the game-winner. The Los Angeles, California native goes into the contest leading the Bobcats in scoring (12.9) and rebounding (7.7).
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury is second on the squad in scoring and assists with 12.6 and 1.9 per game, respectively. The lanky forward say his double-digit consecutive scoring streak come to an end at 13 games with a nine-point effort last week.
The Bobcats' biggest long-distance threat,
Ethan Montalvo is averaging 2.1 made three-pointers per contest and is shooting 36.4 percent.
Ojai Black is coming off a 5-assist, 0-turnover game; his third such performance for him this season. Over the last nine games he is dishing out 3.9 assists per game and averaging 2.9 assists per turnover.
Scouting UL MonroeUL Monroe enters Thursday with a 13-12 record on the season and are third in the SBC with a 9-5 mark. The Warhawks have won three straight with their last two coming at home, where they are 11-0 this season. Away from Fant-Ewing Coliseum, they are 2-12 with two losses coming at neutral sites. Their lone road victory in league play was a 91-90 thriller at Appalachian State on Feb. 6.
Majok Deng, this week's Sun Belt Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, sports 19.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game with a 48.3 field goal percentage. He has made a team-high 81.8 percent of his free throws and 44 treys.
Justin Roberson has put up 14.0 ppg and Nick Coppola adds 10.9 ppg and is handing out 5.1 apg, the third most in the conference. Making a team best 54.7 percent of his shots is Travis Munnings, a freshman from Freeport, Bahamas.
The Warhawks are scoring 73.4 ppg with a 45.6 shooting percentage and 35.6 percent on three-pointers. In conference play, they have increased their scoring to 75.2 and lead the league shooting 46.1 percent.
