Bobcats Welcome Mountaineers to Town Thursday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Thursday night sees the Texas State men's basketball team back in action when the Bobcats host Appalachian State for a 7:30 p.m. contest in Strahan Coliseum.
 
Texas State has dropped five straight and enter with a 9-12 record and 3-9 mark in the Sun Belt Conference while the Mountaineers are 6-17 overall, 4-8 in league play and have lost three consecutive games.
 
Of the four meetings, three have ended with an Appalachian State victory. The first meeting this season saw the Mountaineers jump out to a 30-8 lead on their way to a 20-point win. The only victory for the Bobcats in the all-time series was on Dec. 23, 2010 in Cancun, Mexico during the Cancun Governor's Cup by the score of 79-68.
 
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury extended his double-digit scoring streak to 13 games on Tuesday and leads the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game. The junior forward also contributes 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals per contest.
 
Down low, Emani Gant is grabbing a team best 7.4 rpg and is scoring 12.2 ppg. However, he has been held to less than 10 points in five of the last seven games.
 
Ethan Montalvo contributes 10.4 ppg and averages two made three-pointers a contest. Cameron Naylor is putting up 10.3 ppg with a 44.3 field goal percentage and grabbing 5.0 rpg since being inserted into the starting lineup seven games ago.
 
Leading Appalachian State and the conference in scoring is Frank Eaves at 20.1 points per contest. He is one of 28 players in Division I to average at least 20 points a game this season. The senior guard is shooting 41.0 percent from the field and making 42.7 percent from long distance with 73 made three-pointers.
 
Ronshad Shabazz is netting 11.7 points per contest and has led the team in scoring their past two games, including a 27-point performance on Saturday against UL Monroe. Chris Burgess has nailed 38 three-pointers this season and dishes out a team-high 2.4 apg.
 
The Mountaineers are scoring 70.8 points per game but are surrendering 77.5, the most in the SBC. Despite making just 41.0 percent of their shots, they are deadly from beyond the arc with a 37.7 shooting percentage that leads the conference and is 46th in the nation.
