NEW ORLEANS – The Texas State men's basketball team looks to win its first Sun Belt Conference game in program history, when it takes on No. 5 seed UT Arlington at 5 p.m., Thursday afternoon at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.
Texas State is looking for revenge on the Mavericks after being swept in both meetings this season. The Bobcats are trying to get their first win over UTA since Feb. 12, 2011, a span of eight games, the longest in series history. Thursday's game against UT Arlington marks the first time since 1993 the two teams have met in a conference tournament.
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury is riding a hot shooting streak over his past four games, averaging 16.3 points per game while shooting 58.8 percent from three-point range (10-of-17). Emani Gant is also coming off a week in which he was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team, after being one of three players in the league to average 12.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Scouting UT Arlington
The Mavericks enter the game having lost four of their last five and are without the services of Johnny Hill and Drew Charles who will miss the rest of the season due to injuries. Lonnie McClanahan has been a thorn in the Bobcats' side this season, averaging 14.5 points per game over the two games, most on the team.
Thursday's game will be broadcast on ESPN 3. The Texas State radio broadcast can be heard on 89.9 FM KTSW and www.txstatebobcats.com/radio.
