Conference Notes SAN MARCOS, Texas – Last weekend, the Texas State soccer team snapped a three-match skid by defeating UL Lafayette and UL Monroe on the road and will now return home for the final weekend of regular season play with a pair of matches against Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
The Bobcats, who are currently 10-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in Sun Belt Conference play, will take on Georgia State Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Georgia Southern Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. for Senior Day. After picking up a pair of wins last weekend, Texas State currently sits in a tie for fourth overall in the conference ahead of Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
The match against Georgia Southern, which was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., has been moved up to 12 p.m. central time.
The Bobcats will recognize four seniors in
Kristen Champion,
Lynsey Curry,
Landry Lowe, and
Caitlynn Rinehart after the match Sunday afternoon. Curry most recently was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after recording three goals and one assist in the pair of wins over UL Lafayette and UL Monroe this past weekend.
A Look At The Competition – Georgia StateGeorgia State enters the final weekend of regular season competition with a 9-4-3 overall record and 3-3-1 conference mark.
Offensively, the Panthers are led by Suzanne Arafa and Caitlin Ray, who have scored seven goals each this season. In all, the Panthers have combined for 31 total goals scored this season. Christa Fox has spent the majority of the minutes in goal for Georgia State and has allowed 17 goals. She has a .734 save percentage and a 7-4-3 overall record.
The Panthers, who started the season off with a 6-0-2 record, have lost three out of the last four contests. They won their most recent match against Troy in double overtime.
A Look At The Competition – Georgia SouthernGeorgia Southern, one of the top scoring teams in the conference, enters the final weekend of regular season play with a 6-8-2 overall record and 3-3-1 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. The Eagles have scored a combined 33 goals, led by Jennifer Wittick with 10 and Nora El-Shami with nine. El-Shami leads the team in total points as she has also racked up a total of 12 assists this year.
Georgia Southern has recorded four penalty kicks this season and are perfect in them so far. El-Shami leads the team going 3-for-3 in PK's.
Emily Egan has spent the majority of the time in the net for the Eagles and currently owns a .770 save percentage and 1.19 goals allowed average.
