Box Score

SAN MARCOS Texas State was first on the scoreboard with two runs in the third, but Valparaiso answered in the fourth and tied it up in the seventh then scored the go-ahead run in the 10th to win it, 3-2, and drop Texas State to 9-3 on the season. Valparaiso improves to 5-6 on the year.

The Bobcats tallied five hits in the game. Matt Sanchez, David Paiz, Tyler Pearson, Colby Targun and Granger Studdard each hit once with Targun and Studdard scoring the only runs of the game, one of which was unearned.

Chad Young notched three strikeouts to lead the Texas State pitching staff in his two innings of work while Cory Geisler only gave up one hit with a strikeout in an effective 1.1 innings. Justin Dellinger finished up for the Bobcats forcing a groundout and striking the last Valpo batter out.

With a one-run lead in the seventh inning, Texas State let Michael Morman make his way around the bases. He reached on a fielder's choice and went to second base while Cody Perkins, Paiz and Ross Goebel ran a runner down between second and third. After that, designated hitter Emerson Misch knocked a single to shallow right field to score Morman.

The Bobcats had a chance to add runs in the eighth inning with two runners on, but a fielder's choice that led to an unassisted out at third ended the opportunity. After that, the Bobcats would only have one more base runner in the ninth and 10th innings.

After Morman scored the tying run in the seventh, he scored the winning run in the 10th. He legged out an infield single and the Crusaders sacrifice bunted him to second. Andy Burns followed with the hit of the night, a double down the left line to score Morman and give Valparaiso the lead and ultimately the win.

Texas State's only runs came in the third inning. Targun and Studdard started with consecutive singles then Cody Lovejoy tried to sacrifice bunt both runners over but benefitted from a Valparaiso error that allowed Targun to score on the play. Studdard scored next when Valparaiso's Ellis Foreman, a pitcher from Round Rock, threw a wild pitch.

The Valpo Crusaders answered with one run in the fourth inning, also scoring on a wild pitch, but the Bobcats held Valparaiso after that until the seventh.
