SAN MARCOS, Texas –
Texas State women's soccer head coach Kat Conner has announced this week the 2014 women's soccer schedule. This year's schedule features 12 home contests including an exhibition against Houston Baptist to open the season and nine Sun Belt Conference matches.

"This schedule is a great schedule because we have a lot of home matches where our fans can catch us right here in San Marcos," said head coach Kat Conner. "Of course we are bringing in some great competition, starting with Houston Baptist for an exhibition match."

This year's non-conference schedule features match-ups from various different conferences including the Big 12, C-USA, WAC, and Southland.

The featured home non-conference games for the Bobcats come on Sept. 12 and Sept. 21 when the Bobcats welcome Big 12 opponents TCU and Texas to the Bobcat Soccer Complex. The Bobcats has competed against the Horned Frogs five times in program history, with TCU owning a 3-2 edge over Texas State. This will mark the second regular season match-up with the Longhorns in program history as the Bobcats traveled north to Austin to take on Texas last season.

"TCU at home will be a big game for us," added Conner. "We went up there two years ago and after starting of well, we lost our momentum after they scored a goal on us by then-Horned Frog, now-Bobcat, Tori Hale. We will love to be able to come back and take a win at our place. Texas is also a highlight on our schedule. We hope to do better this year and I know our kids can compete at that level. With having our hometown support, I know that can be a game for us to make ourselves known."

A couple not quite so familiar opponents for the Bobcats on the 2014 non-conference schedule include WAC member New Mexico State, SWAC opponent Texas Southern, and Southland member Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. In the 15-year history of Texas State women's soccer, the Bobcats have only faced off against the Aggies once (2012), the Tigers twice (2004, 2012), and this will be the first all-time meeting against the Islanders as they are in just their second season of action.

"Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is a startup program so it will be interesting to see how the game shapes up for us," mentioned Conner. "They are very well organized and after playing them in the spring, we think it will be a very tough match for us."

Familiar schools, however, on the non-conference schedule include former Southland Conference foes in Lamar and Northwestern State, UTEP, Prairie View A&M, and I-35 rival in UTSA.

With the loss of Western Kentucky to C-USA, the 2014 Sun Belt Conference schedule has changed up slightly from the 2013 campaign. Two new squads, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern, will join the SBC in the fall of 2014 and will now be on the schedule for the Bobcats. This upcoming season, the SBC will have 10 conference schools, all of which the Bobcats will play once starting with Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. on Sept. 26.

"The Arkansas trip will be a tough start to the conference schedule as both coaches are good at organizing their team and getting them ready for the conference play."

While in Arkansas, the Bobcats will complete the weekend trip with a contest against UALR on Sept. 28 before returning home for a five-game home stand at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. In that stretch, the Bobcats will host 2013 SBC Tournament Champion South Alabama, Appalachian State, Troy, UL Monroe, and UL Lafayette. The Bobcats will conclude the conference schedule on the road, traveling to Georgia Southern on Oct. 24 and Georgia State on Oct. 26.

"The big game to me is the South Alabama game," stated Conner. "It was just an unbelievable night last year in Mobile with high intensity and high athleticism. It could have gone either way and South Alabama's coach and I both know that both squads are going to be unbelievable this season. If there is a game to catch in the month of October, the South Alabama game will be that."

The 2014 SBC Tournament will be hosted by South Alabama this season and will be held on Nov. 5-9. The top eight teams will qualify for the championship and the champion will be determined through a single-elimination format. Last year, the Bobcats fell in the semi-final match to the SBC Regular Season Champion Western Kentucky.

"Overall, Texas is a game that everyone needs to come out to in the month of September along with the game against South Alabama in October," said Conner. "There are a lot of opportunities with 12 home games to see some great soccer and great matchups."

The Texas State women's soccer team will play host to Houston Baptist in an exhibition game on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. Last season, the Bobcats overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Huskies by a score of 3-2.
