Match Statistics
Birmingham, Ala. – In a match that was not decided until the third set of the final singles match, the Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss at the University of Alabama Birmingham on Monday afternoon at George Ward Park.
Texas State scored all three of their points in singles action with
Jessica Kahts,
Ana Laura Gutierrez and
Eva Dench winning each of their matches.
Kahts won the match on court No. 1 in straight sets as she beat Rachel Daniell by the score of 6-4, 6-4.
Gutierrez also won her match against Elaine Simon in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph on Court No. 4.
In addition, Dench won the No. 6 match in dominant fashion with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Paula Castro.
The match opened with UAB capturing the team doubles point when the Blazers won the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Kahts and Gutierrez gave Texas State its first win of the day on the No. 1 court with an 8-4 victory over Daniell and Simon.
On the No. 2 court,
Monica Pieratt and
Shannon Beckett suffered an 8-4 loss against Pardis Kianoush and Paula Castro. In the deciding No. 3 match,
Katy Collins and
Eva Dench suffered their second loss of the year when they fell 8-1 versus Amy Lowther and Catherine Ragon.
In singles play, Pieratt suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss against Lowther on the No. 2 court, while Beckett lost a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Kianoush in the No. 3 match.
The final point in the match came on the No. 5 court where Ragon edged Collins 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to clinch the victory for UAB.
The loss drops Texas State's record to 6-5 this season as the Bobcats will play their next match at Alabama State on Wednesday before returning to Sun Belt Conference play at South Alabama on Thursday.
