Bobcats Come up Short on Senior Day

San Marcos, Texas –
Despite taking an early lead, the Texas State men's basketball team was unable to hold on, falling to Sun Belt Conference champion, Georgia State, 66-55, Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum on Senior Day.

Joel Wright had the early highlight of the night with about four minutes to go in the first half. Wright got the steal and passed it ahead to Phil Hawkins. Hawkins then drove down and had an alley-oop to Wright who flushed it home for his 1,000th career point.

Texas State controlled the pace of the game for the first 20 minutes, The Bobcats held the Sun Belt regular season champion Georgia State to 8-of-29 from the field, including 3-of-10 from three-point range. Overall the Panthers went into halftime with just a 23-22 halftime lead.

Down 12 in the second half, the Bobcats responded cutting Georgia State's lead to 55-51. Hawkins capped the run by taking a pass and going end-to-end for the layup in traffic. He finished the game with 11 points.

Unfortunately for the Bobcats, Georgia State responded taking an eight point lead. The Panthers kept Texas State at arm's reach the rest of the game, led by R.J. Hunter, son of head coach Ron Hunter. R.J. scored a game-high 18 points and had eight rebounds. As a team, Georgia State shot 72.2 percent (13-of-18 in the second half, compared to the Bobcats' 36.0 percent (9-of-25).

Texas State will be back in action on Thursday, March 6 on the road at South Alabama. Tip time is set for 7:00 p.m. Thursday's game can be heard on 89.9 FM KTSW in San Marcos as well as www.txstatebobcats.com.
