Complete Game Notes

Bobcat Bits
AUSTIN BURSTS ONTO THE SCENE: Austin O'Neal was seeing limited time most of this season, only starting when Texas State faced a lefty pitcher. This past weekend, however, he used the opportunity against Louisiana Tech's lefty Saturday to burst onto the scene. He went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer to stake his claim on a Sunday start as well. On Sunday, he knocked his second home run en route to a 3-for-5, four-RBI day. Before this weekend, he was batting .229 with 11 hits and six RBI, but this weekend bumped him to .298, 17 hits and more than doubled his RBI count to 13.

STUMPH IS BACK: Senior designated hitter Andrew Stumph made his return to the lineup for the Bobcats against Sacramento State, but he didn't show he was all the way back until the midweek game against Texas. He was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI against the Longhorns and followed that with an impressive weekend against Louisiana Tech. Since getting just one hit in 12 at bats against Sacramento State, Stumph has exploded to go 7-for-15 (.467) with seven RBI in the past four games. He made three pivotal hits, one each day, against Louisiana Tech. Friday, he notched the only RBI of the game to win it, and he tied the game with RBI hits on both Saturday and Sunday. For the season, Stumph is averaging .300 with 24 hits, 17 RBI.

CLIMBING UP AND INTO THE RECORD BOOKS: Speaking of Andrew Stumph, he is making his way up the Texas State record books this season. After this past weekend, he is now fifth all-time in games played (187) and at bats (676). He is sixth in RBI (124) just one away from tying fifth. He's seventh in hits (192) and 10th in total bases (270). He has a little bit of company in the books as Morgan Mickan made his way in this weekend with his 25th stolen base to put him 15th all-time. Mitchell Pitts makes it a trio as he is seventh in appearances (60), eighth in innings pitched (208.2) and 14th in strikeouts (157). He'll also get the starting nod tonight.

DUO DOORMEN: Texas State has found two reliable arms to close out games with lefty Donnie Hart and righty Hunter Lemke. Hart has been on fire, owning a 0.00 ERA in 20.1 innings pitched. He's only given up 10 hits and one unearned run while striking out 19 and holding opponents to a mere .147 batting average. Meanwhile, Lemke has five saves and a 2.81 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched. He's struck out 21 and is holding opponents to a .231 average. The duo has combined for 46 appearances, and Head Coach Ty Harrington has taken to playing them back to back with Hart taking the seventh or eighth inning and Lemke shutting it down in the eighth or ninth.
