San Marcos, Texas – Despite battling back to take a lead in the sixth inning, it was not enough as the Texas State baseball team fell 4-2 in 10 innings to Houston, Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.
In the top of the tenth inning, Houston's Landon Appling laced a double down the left field line to score Jonathan Davis from first, giving the Cougars the 3-2 lead. It became 4-2 when Caleb Barker launched a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing in Appling from third.

The Bobcats threatened again just an inning later when Cody Lovejoy and Garrett Mattlage had back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with just one out. The next batter, Colby Targun, got on base via a hit-by-pitch, to load the bases. With two outs Lovejoy was able to score from third on a Cougar passed ball that went through the catcher's legs, giving the Bobcats a 2-1 lead after six innings.
On the mound, Texas State got a quality start from Scott Grist who settled down after allowing a first inning run to Houston. He went 6.1 innings, and struck out seven Cougars, walking just one while allowing just one run over his final five innings of work.
