LAFAYETTE, La. – Texas State won its second consecutive match by a 3-0 sweep with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-20 win over Louisiana Sunday. The win pushes Texas State to 20-11 overall and 10-6 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Freshman
Shelby Vas Matt led the team in kills with 10 and a .318 hitting percentage. She received support from
Amari Deardorff and
Alexandra Simms with nine kills each.
Caylin Mahoney gave out 29 assists with nine digs and three kills. Vas Matt added eight digs to her stat line while
Ali Hubicsak and
Sierra Smith paced Texas State in digs with 11 each.

The Bobcats were able to put down five blocks in the match with three block assists from
Ashlee Hilbun and two from Deardorff.
Molly Ahrens added a solo block with a block assist.

In the first set, Texas State survived an early 5-0 run from Louisiana and a late surge to close the set to just two points, 22-20. Despite the close 25-20 win, the Bobcats hit for a much better percentage in the opening set than the Ragin' Cajuns, .229 to .056. A 3-1 advantage in blocks also helped Texas State get the first set win behind a match high five kills from Vas Matt.

The second set looked much like the first, or at least ended that way. The Bobcats built up an early lead with a 6-0 run to make it 12-6 in favor of Texas State. The Ragin' Cajuns, however came back and eventually Texas State led the second set, 22-20, just like the first. A kill each from Deardorff and Hilbun gave the Bobcats set point and Louisiana hit for an error to give Texas State a 2-0 lead in the match.

Texas State hit an impressive .310 in the second set with 16 kills and just three errors on 42 attempts. Deardorff put down six kills in the set without an error while Hilbun had four kills in the frame.

Louisiana came out of the break with a bit of a renewed vigor in the third set and put up a fight. The set went back and forth early on, but the Bobcats, with the match tied 8-8, went on a 4-0 run followed by a 3-0 run to gain a 15-10 lead.

Texas State built that up to an 18-11 lead with an ace from Simms, a kill from Vas Matt and a UL error. The Ragin' Cajuns, again showed a bit of resiliency with a slight comeback to pull within three points, 23-20. From there though, Simms put the Cajuns away with a kill and an ace to make it a third consecutive 25-20 set.

Next, Texas State will travel to Arkansas for the team's final weekend of regular season play with a 7 p.m. Friday match against the Sun Belt's second place team UALR and a 1 p.m. Sunday match against Arkansas State. After that, the Bobcats will travel to Troy, Ala., for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Nov. 21-23.
