Texas State Volleyball's Tournament Run Ends in the Semi Finals

FOLEY, Alabama — Texas State volleyball's run came to an end in the semi-finals in a 3-2 loss to Arkansas State. Despite a 22-kill night from Samantha Wunsch and a career-best 31 dig night from Alyssa Clark, the Bobcats came up short and dropped the game to Arkansas State.

Jade Defraeye also recorded four blocks to become Texas State's single-season block assist record holder with 146.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Texas State started the match out with a dominant set. The team hit .407 in the first set with 15 kills while the Red Wolves had just eight. Wunsch led with six kills on nine swings to lead both sides in the opening set. It was a seven-point lead at the media time out for the Bobcats, which they carried through to the end of the set. The Bobcats also had three team blocks and 11 digs, out-blocking and digging the Red Wolves enroute to the set win.

The second set was neck and neck throughout the whole set with neither side leading by more than three, even through to the end. Arkansas State won set two 25-23 to level the match. Despite Texas State out hitting and digging the Red Wolves, their five blocks to the Bobcats two was the difference maker in the set.

Set three was even more back and forth, with 13 tied scores and five lead changes it truly came down to the last points, which Arkansas State got the final two points off back-to-back kills by Daedrianna Cail.

Texas State gutted out a fourth set win to force the match to go to five. Despite 12 tied scores and four lead changes, Texas State dug deep to keep the Red Wolves at bay. The Bobcats took a set tied at 18 and won it 25-22 in the end, highlighted by back-to-back kill from Wunsch to end the set. She had five kills on eight errorless swings in the fourth set to lead the Bobcats.

The Bobcats just ran out of momentum in the fifth set after Arkansas State took a 4-0 run to make a tied 5-5 score a 9-5 lead for them. From there, Texas State fought hard, but Arkansas State was able to win the match despite the team's trading points the rest the way through. Arkansas State won set five 15-10.
