Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Kat Conner

On difference in preparing for WAC contest from other nonconference games

“We haven't seen these teams before, but luckily the WAC has a video exchange policy so I have gotten  to see film on them. I think that might even be better than most nonconference games. Sometimes you're trying to translate other team's scouting reports into what they mean, whereas now you get to see the team for yourself and you can still take other coaches' terminology and lingo to fit what was successful against them. Of course there's still an unknown, so it makes it different. Each time we've seen them on video, they've looked different. They can look great and aggressive, and then they can look sluggish at times, like us. It's going to be hard but the biggest thing we need to do is worry about us. If we keep improving on ourselves, both offensively and defensively, we can make a run at the conference tournament.”

On how practice changes in nonconference and conference play

“It's still the same. Tuesday is a competition day, it's an aggressive day, it's a fitness day. On Wednesday we're looking at the ideas we've heard about and seen on film about our opponent and making tweaks to it. Then on Thursday, if you're at home, you're always doing a walkthrough still, but also building confidence in the players.”

On key to winning both games this weekend

“One I think we have to prepare the players for the new style they're going to see. Also the new nuances that these two teams are going to throw at us compared to what we saw previously in the Southland. Finally it's building the confidence that the players can compete at this level and have the chance at championship opportunities. So it's the same as always, but different because you don't know the coaches you're facing and the program you're facing and the history they've come from.

Senior defender Alissa Scott

On if she is treating conference games any different from non conference

“I'd say we're about the same. We're excited from our win against Texas Southern on Friday, and ready to roll and get into our conference.”

On how team has progressed the last two weeks

“We're really starting to work well together and put everything together.”

Sophomore midfielder Tori Hale

On how the team is looking to build off the win against Texas Southern

“We're just going to try to do the same thing and keep the pace we had going on Friday and take more shots and be more aggressive.”

On how she's transitioned from TCU to Texas State

“At  first it was a little difficult, because you're used to a certain coach's way of doing things. I think I've gotten to where I know what to expect from Coach Conner and I know what she wants from me, so it's easier.
