San Marcos, Texas – Texas State baseball will look to continue its strong play against midweek competition when the Bobcats visit No. 9 Rice in Houston on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game at Reckling Park. The Bobcats and Owls will play for the second time this season in a game televised on CSS Sports.

Texas State (20-11) had its last midweek game against Baylor rained out before taking two of three games last weekend against Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Bobcats have won each of their last three games against ranked opponents and are 6-2 against ranked opponents this season.

Rice, ranked No. 9 in the latest Baseball America Poll, is coming of a series win over Tulane last weekend that improved the team's record to 23-11 overall. The Owls have managed a 3-3 record against Southland Conference opponents this season with loses to Texas State, Sam Houston State and Lamar. Rice has also defeated UTSA, Lamar and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from the SLC.

The last time Texas State and Rice met, the Bobcats won in walkoff fashion at Bobcat Ballpark on March 6 when senior Tyler Sibley singled through the middle to bring him Kevin Sah and Morgan Mickan for a 3-2 win. Sah came in as a pinch hitter and walked with one out before Mickan singled to center field to put runners at the corners. Mickan stole second base, and then Sibley hit a 1-2 pitch for a single to give the Bobcats their seventh consecutive win.

This time, the Bobcats will send redshirt freshman Taylor Black to the mound for his third career start. The right-hander has a 2-0 record so far this season with wins against No. 19 TCU and No. 16 Oregon.

In addition to being televised on CSS Sports, live coverage of Tuesday's game will be available through www.TxStateBobcats.com.
