San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Waco on Saturday for the Michael Johnson Dr. Pepper Classic, hosted by Baylor University. Texas State will take part in its final away meet of the pre-conference season as they host the Bobcat Classic next weekend and the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in May.
The Bobcats will bring along 49 athletes to be among 23 other teams competing, which will feature schools such as Baylor, TCU, UT-Arlington, SFA, North Texas, George Mason and New Mexico State.
“The message this week was mental focus,” said head coach Dana Boone. “It's about their mindset and how they approach each meet. We had a mental breakdown last week. Like I've said all year, I want to see us improve from the previous week.”
Both teams were recognized this week with top-10 rankings in the South Central Region as both secured the No. 10 spot in the week 3 poll. James Johnson, Logan Cunningham, Chante'sean White, Jessica Thomas and Elena Horn represented the Bobcats in the national rankings as all five individuals were ranked in the top-35. With less than a month away from the conference meet, Johnson, White, Thomas and Horn lead the Southland Conference in their events.
Competition at Baylor's Hart-Patterson Track Complex will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the javelin. The afternoon running events are slated to start at noon while the evening session will begin at 5 p.m. Live results can be accessed through Delta Timing. Complete results from Saturday's meet will be available at www.txstatebobcats.com at the conclusion of the day's events.
