San Marcos, Texas – After a dominant performance at the Texas State Invitational, the Texas State men's and women's track and field teams will head to Austin on Saturday to compete in the Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

The Bobcats posted 11 first-place finishes at their home meet last week as sophomore James Johnson had a strong day in the sprints, setting a wind-aided school record in the 200 meters with 20.57 to move up to ninth in the nation. On the women's side, junior long jumper Jessica Thomas posted a personal-best with 6.22 meters (20-05) to rank 15th in the nation. Junior hurdler Chante'sean White recorded her best time of the season in the 400-meter hurdles with 58.87 for the 20th-best time in the NCAA this season.

“I'm very happy for them,” said head coach Dana Boone. “We've been getting some things worked out and they're starting to build their confidence.”

Johnson also teamed with Timothy Young, William Murray and Brandon Thomas to break their own school record of 40.23 with a time of 40.15 to rank 24th in the nation.

Also receiving national rankings this week were Logan Cunningham and Elena Horn.

“We've been working on some individual events this week,” Boone said. “If we build on the week before and keep showing improvements, we'll be where we need to be by conference time.”

A total of 49 athletes will represent the Bobcats this weekend as the team will begin competition at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin. Running events will start at 4 p.m. with women's 4x100-meter relay.
