Austin, Texas – On day one of the Texas Relays, junior Danessa Lyssy set three personal-bests out of four events to begin the two-day heptathlon event at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
“I think she did an awesome job,” said head coach Dana Boone. “I was excited to hear her progress throughout the day. We're very proud of her. It's always good to set PR's like that on a big stage.”
After four events, Lyssy sits in ninth place in a field of 21 competitors with 3187 points.
Lyssy began the day in the 100-meter hurdles posting a time of 14.52 to finish 10th, improving her best by .07 seconds, which she set in 2011. In the high jump, Lyssy tied for first with 1.69 meters (5-06.50), bettering her previous record of 1.68 meters (5-06) set at the Tyson Invitational earlier this year.
In her third event of the day, Lyssy finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 11.83 meters (38-09.75) for her best mark in the shot put for the heptathlon. Lyssy finished the day in the 200 meters with a time of 26.09 for her third personal-best of the day.
