Texas State Women’s Tennis Wins Seventh Straight Match With 5-2 Victory Over Central Arkansas

San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team won its seventh straight match and improved their record to 3-0 against Southland Conference teams on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over Central Arkansas at the Bobcat Tennis Center.
 
Texas State began the day winning two of the three doubles matches to capture the team point. Melissa Hadad and Jessica Kahts jumped out to a 5-0 lead and went on to win the No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-1 over Allison Hartman and Allison Murphy.
 
In the No. 3 match, Rachel Baldree and Mariana Perez  overcame a 3-2 deficit against Simona Horsikyan and Kazumi Otani and went on to win the match by a score of 8-5. 
 
In the No. 2 match Simona Horsikyan and Kazumi Otani of Central Arkansas won four of the final five games to win the No. 3 match with an 8-6 decision over Texas State's Gabriela Rojas and Bérénice Van den Bergh.
 
The Bobcats scored their other four more points after four of the six singles matches. In the No. 1 match, Kahts defeated Simona Horsikyan by a score of 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 2 match, Hadad won a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Allison Murphy.
 
Rojas and Perez won the other singles matches for Texas State. Rojas defeated Sasha Ruocco by a score of 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 match. Perez also posted a shutout victory in the No. 6 match with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Stephanie Gonzalez-Valero.
 
The other two matches were decided by 10-point tiebreakers in the third set with Central Arkansas winning both matches. In the No. 3 match Kristina Horsikyan edged Baldree by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 13-11. In the final singles match, Otani won a 2-6, 7-5, 10-6 decision against Bernes in the No. 6 match.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Monday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. when Texas State plays host to Northwestern State in a match between two of the unbeaten teams in the Southland Conference this season.
 
With its victory over UCA, Texas State enters Monday's match with a 7-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark against SLC teams. Northwestern State is 6-1 overall and 2-0 against SLC teams.
