TX State Baseball Stadium Features a Caboose: MyFoxAUSTIN.com
San Marcos, Texas – Bobcat Ballpark has a new addition.
Originally designed with four suites, Bobcat Ballpark will feature a fifth suite for the 2012 season after a caboose was installed down the right-field line at the home of the Texas State baseball team. The caboose, which made its way to San Marcos from California, will be renovated this summer and ready prior to the 2012 home opener.
“We'd already sold all the suites in the baseball stadium,” said Larry Teis, Texas State athletic director. “We've had a waiting list for two-and-a-half to three years, so I asked Derek Grice (assistant athletic director) to find a creative way for us to get another suite.”
The caboose, purchased by Texas State donor Jim West, gives Bobcat Ballpark a truly unique feature.
“When you've been here in San Marcos, you know that there are a lot of trains,” Grice said. “So it was just an idea that we had. And a couple of people got a hold of it, and it moved forward. Next thing you know, we have a caboose here.”
Renovations to the caboose are currently being planned. Bobcat Ballpark's latest suite will feature a fresh coat of maroon and gold paint, couches, a kitchenette, a restroom, flat screen TVs and decks both in front of and on top of the caboose.
