Softball: UTSA I-35 Rivalry Preview

San Marcos, Texas –Texas State (26-20, 17-7 SLC) returns to conference play this week as it host UTSA in the I-35 Rivalry series for its final three games at Bobcat Field. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday's single contest will start at 1 p.m. with Senior Day recognitions occurring at the conclusion of the game.

The Bobcats enter the weekend in a three-way tie for first place in the league with A&M-Corpus Christi and UT Arlington. The Islanders have three more wins than the Bobcats and Mavericks, with this week being their bye weekend. Scenarios will equal themselves out after this weekend.

Sophomore pitcher Anne Marie Taylor has recorded a team-high13 wins and has held her opponents to a .192 batting average. Hall has 12 victories and has fanned a team-high 143 batters.

UTSA is using all five of its pitchers to garner wins this season, but none of them have reached the 10-win plateau. Emily Humpal has the most wins with nine, along with 84 strikeouts. Molly Fichtner has been the slugger for the Roadrunners with 10 homeruns and 32 RBIs. Fichtner is batting .364 and teammate Kristin Kappler is hitting .336 to lead the cross-town rivals.
