Game Notes

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State baseball returns to Southland Conference action this weekend as McNeese State visits Bobcat Ballpark for a three-game set. The two teams will play game one of the series on Friday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday's game will be at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday's will start at 1:00 p.m. Sunday will also be Youth Baseball Day sponsored North Carolina Furniture Direct. There will be a free pregame clinic from 9:00-10:00 a.m. for the first 100 registrants and a mini-bat giveaway at the gates. Kids will also be able to run the bases after the game on Sunday.

Texas State (26-15, 15-6 SLC) is coming off a series win against Northwestern State last weekend to remain in a tie for first place in the conference with Stephen F. Austin. The Bobcats had a pair of midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday, falling to No. 4 Texas, 2-0, before defeating Prairie View A&M, 5-1, to split the two.

McNeese State brings a 20-23 overall record and 9-12 mark in Southland Conference play into the weekend. The Cowboys sit in a tie for seventh place in the SLC after losing two of three games last weekend to Stephen F. Austin.

The Bobcats will send junior right hander Carson Smith to the mound on Friday for his 10th start of the season. He currently sports a 5-3 record and 2.22 earned-run average with 70 strikeouts in 65 total innings.

Junior righty Mitchell Pitts will take the ball on Saturday when he looks to continue his recent streak of standout performances. Pitts has allowed just one earned run over his last 21 1/3 innings on the mound, helping lower his season ERA to 3.62. He also boasts a perfect 5-0 record with 49 strikeouts on the year.

Sunday's probable starter will be sophomore southpaw Colton Turner. Turner has made 10 starts so far this season and has a 6-1 record and 4.70 ERA. With 49 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings on the mound, Turner is striking out nearly a batter per inning.

For McNeese State, three seniors will get the call during the series. Lefty Phil Parcell (3-2, 4.31 ERA) is scheduled to throw on Friday, while righties Matt Click (3-5, 4.57) and Zach Butler (4-2, 5.52) will take the ball on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Tickets for the weekend series can be purchased in advance at the Texas State Athletics Ticket Office located in the Casey Athletic Administration Complex or at the gates of Bobcat Ballpark. Groups of 10-or-more can also purchase discounted tickets for just $5 each for Sunday's game.
