San Marcos, Texas – Texas State (26-19, 17-7 SLC) will continue non-conference play as it heads to Waco to face No. 17 Baylor (35-10, 7-5 Big 12) on Tuesday, April 26. First pitch at Getterman Stadium is slated for 6 p.m.
Texas State is 8-22 all-time against Baylor. Texas State beat Baylor last year 4-3 in extra innings when the Bears were ranked No. 22. The Bobcats have won three of the last five meetings.
Texas State is coming off a 2-1 win over North Texas on Tuesday night. The Bobcats used a seventh-inning squeeze to close out the game and escape with the victory. Chandler Hall scored the Bobcats initial run on a solo homer to right field. Coralee Ramirez scored the game winning run on a nicely planted bunt by Shelby Carnline.
Despite a trip up on Friday against Houston, the Bobcats are playing very well. Texas State has six batters hitting .300 plus. Senior third baseman Jenna Emery is at the top of the list with a .365, including 22 walks. Junior pitcher/outfielder Chandler Hall is right behind her with .350. Sophomore pitcher Anne Marie Taylor has garnered 13 wins and has held her opponents to a .192 batting average. Hall has 12 victories and has fanned a team-high 141 batters.
Baylor dropped its series to Oklahoma State this past week to snap a four-game winning streak. The Bears come into Tuesday's contest with a 19-4 home record. Dani Leal leads the Bears with a .363 batting average to go along with a team-high 33 RBIs and 13 homeruns. Kathy Shelton is also in the mix with 52 hits and 28 runs scored. Whitney Canion is the hurler in the circle for Baylor with 19 wins and 216 strikeouts.
