San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State baseball team will begin its 2011 season on Friday, February 18 in the first day of the Texas State Tournament at the Bobcat Baseball Stadium. The Bobcats will play their first of three games this weekend in the second game of the tournament on Friday at 3 p.m. against Nebraska.
Games will start at 11 a.m. on Friday morning when Missouri State and Air Force play in the first game of the tournament. Following Texas State's game, Washington and Missouri State will play at 7 p.m. to wrap up the first day.
Texas State returns to the field on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game against Missouri State before finishing the tournament with a 7 p.m. game against Air Force on Sunday.
Junior right-handed pitcher Mitchell Pitts is scheduled to start for the Bobcats against Nebraska. It will mark the eighth career start for Pitts after he went 6-1 with a 4.61 ERA a season ago. Pitts is set to square off against sophomore righty Tyler Niederklein of Nebraska who went 3-1 with a 3.09 ERA last season in eight starts.
Senior Lee Colon is slated to start the Bobcats game on Saturday against Missouri State. The southpaw was 5-3 last season after making nine starts for Texas State.
On Sunday, sophomore lefty Colton Turner will get his first collegiate start when he faces off against Air Force. Turner made two appearances a season ago out of the bullpen.

The Bobcats are coming off a 2010 season in which they posted a 38-22 record, the second best mark on the program's history. Eighteen players return from last year's team, while 17 newcomers have joined the team.
