Looking At The Bobcats
In addition to seeking its fourth straight win, Texas State enters Saturday's game looking to win its third straight home contest after posting victories over Stephen F. Austin (66-61 on Feb. 2) and Nicholls (75-60 on Feb. 5). The Bobcats also won their first SLC road game this season when they won an 85-61 decision over Central Arkansas last Wednesday night. Texas State is 8-3 in home games this season, including a 5-0 mark against SLC teams.
Seniors Cameron Johnson (13.2 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and Tony Bishop (11.4 ppg, 7.7 rpg) lead Texas State in scoring and rebounding. The Bobcats are averaging 79.0 points per game and shooting 44.8 percent (629-1404) from the field. On the defensive end, the Bobcats are forcing an average of 18.04 turnovers and averaging 8.2 steals per contest.
Scouting The Mavericks
UT Arlington enters Saturday's game having lost two of its last three games after defeating Texas State 83-66 in Arlington on Jan. 29. The Mavericks suffered a 70-62 loss at UTSA on Feb. 2 before defeating Central Arkansas 93-70 last Monday. UTA also lost a 78-74 decision against Sam Houston State in Arlington last Wednesday night. Junior forwards LaMarcus Reed and Bo Ingram lead the Mavericks in scoring with averages of 12.9 and 11.1 points per game, respectively.
Series Record
Texas State leads the all-time series 29-24 and is 18-7 in games played in San Marcos, but the Bobcats have dropped the last two games after suffering an 82-78 loss in Strahan Coliseum last year and an 83-66 setback in Arlington earlier this year.
Flashback
In the first meeting between Texas State and UTA this year, Bo Ingram scored 16 points and the Mavericks netted 13 three-point shots to win 83-66 on Jan. 29 in Arlington. Ingram made four of his six three-point shots to lead the long-range attack by UTA, which made nine of its first 16 three-point attempts to open a 44-30 lead at halftime.
The Bobcats had four players score in double figures, but it wasn't enough to offset UTA's hot perimeter shooting. UTA finished the game shooting 49 percent from the field, including 48.1 percent (13-27) beyond the three-point arc. The Bobcats made just 39 percent (23-59) of their shots.
