The Bobcats took a 50-34 lead into halftime, with help from Davis who was perfect from the floor (6-6 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT).

Texas State came out of halftime fired up, and back-to-back treys by Staff and Eddie Rios gave the Bobcats their largest lead of the game at 23 points and forced the Cougars to call a timeout.

Over the next eight minutes, the Cougars outscored the Bobcats 26 to 11 which trimmed Texas State's lead to eight.

Houston was able to slowly nip away at Texas State's lead and with a little over three minutes remaining the Bobcats held on to a five-point lead. The Bobcats missed four shots over the next two minutes, but managed to stay in the game due to a couple Cougar turnovers and miscues.

TaShawn Thomas brought Houston to within two points on a layup with 18 seconds to go. From then on it became a foul-and-free throw ball game. The Cougars started fouling Texas State with hopes that they would miss. Texas State connected on 5 of 6 free throws to keep the lead and come away with an 81-78 victory at Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats had eight turnovers in the game, compared to 17 by the Cougars. Texas State shot a season-low from the charity stripe, 47.6 percent (10-21), while Houston shot 71 percent (22-31).
