Women's Soccer Loses Overtime Thriller In SLC Semifinals, 3-2

Box Score

San Marcos, Texas
  - In what was the most exciting game of the Texas State women's soccer season, it also turned out to be its last, with the Bobcats falling to Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 in overtime in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament, Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Lady Lion Natalie Santana scored in the 98th minute for her second goal of the night, after turning and shooting from just outside the 18-yard box to advance Southeastern to the SLC Championship game on Sunday. She scored the team's first goal on a free kick in the first half from just outside the box that went through everyone and into the back corner.

The story of the game for Bobcat fans was the remarkable resiliency the Bobcats showed late in the second half. After going down 2-0 in the 76th minute, the Texas State offense awoke. Felicia Leask got Texas State on the board in the just 45 seconds later, taking a pass from Britney Curry and dribbling in to around 10 yards out to beat Lacey Bockhaus.

Texas State then tied the game up two minutes later when Emma Staley scored her first goal of the season, getting a loose ball of a corner kick, making the score 2-2.

In the second half and overtime, Texas State outshot Southeastern Louisiana 16-8, including a 14-5 advantage in the second half.

In the second minute of overtime Curry took the ball down the endline and fired but the ball went just wide. Katie Herrick then got the loose ball of the ensuing corner and had it stopped by Bockhaus.

Earlier in the game, Curry got a ball just inside the 18-yard box in the 6th minute and ripped a shot that Bockhaus had to leap high to stop.

Taylor Person looked to have a clean shot in the 25th minute when Felicia Leask passed it back into the middle of the endline, but Person slipped just before she was able to get her whole foot on the ball.

The Bobcats had another scoring chance three minutes into the second half when Serena Hines crossed the ball in front of the goal but it was just ahead of Curry who was coming in to clean it up.

Texas State ends the season with a record of 12-8-1, making it three straight winning seasons for the Bobcats. In the team's 12 year existence, it has had six seasons of 12 wins or more.
