San Marcos, Texas – Despite outshooting Southeastern Louisiana 17-9 overall, including a 10-2 mark in the second half, it was not enough as the Texas State soccer team fell 1-0, Sunday at the Bobcat soccer complex.
Southeastern got on the board first when Karly Dagys sent a pass between two defenders to Maiya Cooper who had Bobcat Frazier goalkeeper 1-on-1 and got it past her for a 1-0 lead.
Texas State's best chance came midway through the first half when Serena Hines went up the middle then sent it outside to Erica Michaud who crossed it into Britney Curry. Curry sent the shot just wide, keeping the game at 1-0 for the Lions.
10 minutes into the second half Michaud and Curry and a good give-and-go working in front of the net. Michaud was able to get a shot off in the middle of defenders that Lion keeper Lacey Bockhaus was just able to get in front of.
A few minutes later Ashley Gowda got control of the ball and got a clean shot off that had Bockhaus beat, but sailed just high.
In the 80th minute Curry got a ball inside the box and turned and fired , but the shot was stopped by Bockhaus.
With the loss Texas State drops to 10-6-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the Southland Conference. The team returns to action next Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in Nacogdoches against Stephen F. Austin.
