Natchitoches, La. - A defensive battle from the start saw a 16-game unbeaten streak for the Texas State Bobcats snapped by Southeastern Louisiana in a 2-0 decision in the championship game of the 2009 Southland Conference Tournament.

Prior to this afternoon's game, Texas State had not been beaten by a conference opponent since November 4, 2007 in a 3-0 win over Lamar.

"You never like to lose, especially since we were on such a great run," said head coach Kat Conner. "But Southeastern Louisiana came out and played a great game. They deserved the win because they played a good game."

Both teams combined for just 15 shots, and Lady Lions keeper Lacey Bockhaus recorded six saves. Bobcat keeper Mandi Mawyer recorded one save in the loss.

Natalie Santana broke open scoring in the 11th minute on a long shot from nearly 30 yards out. Mawyer stretched high for the save, but the goal sailed just high of her reach for a 1-0 Lady Lion lead.

Texas State nearly tied the game at 31:21 when Britney Curry fired a ball toward the corner of the net, but Bockhaus laid out to stop the charge.

"It was definitely an emotionaly game," said Curry. "We wanted to win it for our seniors and we had a really good run. It's an especially tough loss, because the type of game it was in the first time we played them. It was a great match and they came out to play. We did too, we just didn't finish our chances."

In the second half, the Bobcats had two more tries at the goal, both coming from Taylor Person. The freshman's last attempt a 3:14 came on a cross from Jaimie Leake and bounced back from the post. Bockhaus smothered the ball to eliminate a second chance for the Bobcats. With just under a minute to play, Bockhaus booted a goal kick to Southeastern's half of the field and Karly Dagys tapped it in just past Mawyer for the two-goal edge.

Texas State concludes the season with a 14-6-1 overall record, while Southeastern improves to 13-4-2.

Bobcats Britney Curry, Kelsey Bernard, Andrea Grifo and Alissa Scott were named to the All-Tournament team.

Joining the foursome to complete the team are tournament are Natalie Santana, Maiya Cooper, Kyle MacIntosh, Karly Dagys and Lacey Bockhaus (MVP) from Southeastern Louisiana, Shelby Grissett from Sam Houston State and Kylie Louw from Stephen F. Austin.
