Tribute to the Southland: Women's Tennis

The Texas State women's tennis program began and ended its tenure in the Southland Conference boasting some of their most successful teams in school history. Texas State's 1988 team won the school's first Southland Conference championship when the Bobcats earned 50 team points. The Bobcats also won a co-championship in 1989 after scoring 50 points to tie Northwestern State.
 
In 2003, Tory Plunkett was named the head coach at Texas State and has led the Bobcats to a 45-20 dual match record against Southland Conference opponents.
 
Last season, Texas State enjoyed its most successful season since 1989 when the Bobcats posted a 9-2 SLC dual match record and finished in second place among league teams during the regular season.
 
Program highlights include:
 
  • Paul Soliz named the 1988 SLC Coach of the Year.
 
  • Texas State players won seven Southland Conference individual singles championships.
 
  • Tracy Martin was a three-time SLC singles champion between 1988-90.  
 
  • The Bobcats captured five SLC Team Doubles championships.
 
  • Fourteen Texas State players named All-Southland Conference selections.
 
  • Alejandra Gulida chosen SLC Newcomer of the Year and an All-SLC First-Team No. 3 selection in 2007.
 
  • Kiki Kruse selected SLC Newcomer of the Year and All-SLC First-Team No. 5 player in 2009.
 
  • Mariana Perez became the first Bobcat to earn All-SLC honors three times in 2011-12.
