Bobcats Complete Fall Opener at McNeese’s Cowgirl Invite

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Texas State women's tennis concluded its first tournament of the fall season Sunday at the Cowgirl Invite, hosted by McNeese.

The Bobcats competed in doubles and singles action throughout the weekend against McNeese, Tarleton State and Louisiana. Texas State finished the Cowgirl Invite with a 16-16 overall record, going 6-6 in doubles and 10-10 in singles.

Friday's Results
Texas State opened the tournament Friday with two rounds of doubles play against Tarleton State and Louisiana before closing the day with singles action against McNeese.

The Bobcats earned one victory in four doubles matches against Tarleton State. Olivia Collins and Avery Arant fell to Aya Ishii and Marissa Minetti, 6-4, while Julia Richardet and Kinley VanPelt dropped a 6-1 decision to Maria Castano and Erika Abraham-Nilsen. Tadiwa Mauchi and Juliette Jalai battled Nuria Lafitte Valls and Anna Huisgen before falling, 6-4.

Charlotte Roesch and Kim Kuehbauer secured Texas State's lone doubles victory against the Texans, defeating Aruzhan Nuranbay and Rianna Ioana Coreisa, 6-3.

Texas State responded with three doubles victories against Louisiana.

Richardet and VanPelt defeated Cassandra Lecoanet and Marilou Bressan, 6-3, while Mauchi and Jalai earned a 6-4 victory over Nina Krecklenberg and Martina Della Gora. Roesch and Kuehbauer remained unbeaten on the day, cruising to a 6-1 win over Rocio Amoros and Sylvie Peart.

Collins and Arant fell to Ana Martinez and Safia Zenbi, 6-3.

The Bobcats closed the opening day with singles action against McNeese, earning four victories.

VanPelt picked up Texas State's first singles win of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Louna Cormier. Kuehbauer followed with a three-set victory over Ana Hollweg, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6, while Arant defeated Jacqueline Schnabel, 6-3, 6-0. Richardet also picked up a win, defeating Sylvie Peart, 6-4, 6-4.

Collins fell to Erica Hagi, 7-5, 6-4, while Roesch dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Salome Fluri. Jalai fell to Leana Gomez in a three-set battle, 4-6, 7-6(1), 10-8. Zoe Du Pasquier Jensen dropped her match to Naomi Hagi, 6-3, 6-4, while Mauchi fell to Alexa Martinez, 7-5, 6-2.

Saturday's Results
Texas State split its four doubles matches Saturday against McNeese, earning victories from Collins and Arant and Roesch and Kuehbauer.

Collins and Arant defeated Leana Gomez and Naomi Hagi, 6-2, while Roesch and Kuehbauer earned a 6-4 victory over Alexa Martinez and Elena Morales. Richardet and VanPelt fell to Jacqueline Schnabel and Salome Fluri, 6-1, while Mauchi and Jalai dropped a 6-0 decision to Ana Hollweg and Louna Cormier.

The Bobcats went 5-2 in singles play against Louisiana.

Kuehbauer opened singles play with a three-set comeback victory over Marilou Bressan, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8. Richardet defeated Anicia Hammoud, 7-5, 7-6(5), while Roesch earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Ana Martinez.

Collins cruised past Martina Della Gora, 6-3, 6-0, and VanPelt closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Nina Krecklenberg.

Arant fell to Rocio Amoros, 6-4, 6-3, while Jalai dropped a three-set battle to Cassandra Lecoanet, 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.

Sunday's Results
Texas State closed the tournament Sunday with four singles matches against McNeese and Tarleton State, with the remainder of the day's matches canceled due to inclement weather.

Richardet fell to McNeese's Elena Morales, 6-2, 6-3, while Roesch dropped a 6-2, 7-6(0) decision to Tarleton State's Aya Ishii. Arant also dropped a three-set match to Tarleton State's Nuria Lafitte Valls, 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.

Kuehbauer closed the tournament on a high note, battling Tarleton State's Aruzhan Nuranbay before earning a three-set victory, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4. Kuehbauer finished her Texas State debut with a perfect 6-0 record, including a 3-0 mark in doubles and a 3-0 record in singles.

The Bobcats will return to action this weekend when they travel to Abilene to compete in the ACU Invite.
