Texas State Stuns Texas A&M in 3-2 Thriller

Box Score SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State (2-0-1) secured its first-ever victory over an SEC program and stunned Texas A&M (1-2-0) after scoring two late-game goals to mount the historic victory on Wednesday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Aggies wasted no time and opened the scoring inside the first minute of the match, when Trinity Buchanan scored her third goal in as many games.

After a foul was issued to Texas A&M in the 22nd minute, Jenny Ngankem delivered an incredible feed from just inside the center line that found the right foot of Victoria Meza who scored her 15th career goal in a Bobcat uniform.

The 1-1 score would remain true to the intermission. The Aggies would once again strike first 11 minutes into the second half to take a 2-1 advantage, until a foul was issued to Texas A&M to set up a corner kick from Brooke Martinez. The sophomore allowed Jenny Ngankem to spin and score a world-class volley from just inside the top of the box and slung the ball inside the right post to level the score at two in the 79th minute.

"I've been coaching for over 30 years, that's one of the top goals I've seen," shared Coach Steve Holeman when asked about the highlight-reel goal from Ngankem.

The Bobcats would keep the offensive pressure alongside their newfound momentum, resulting in Victoria Meza recording her second consecutive brace when she finished off the ball that dropped from the hands of the Aggie keeper on a ricochet in the 87th minute and would prove to be the difference in the hard-fought contest.

The Bobcat squad was backed by a full house of Texas State fans who erupted after the 90th minute crossed the scoreboard.

It is just the third win all-time the Bobcats have recorded against Power 4 schools, since the victories over Houston (2023) and Texas Tech (2002), and the first versus an SEC opponent.

"We challenge ourselves with tough games and to prepare for conference play," said Holeman. "Texas A&M is one of the best in the state and in the country, and we wanted another chance at them after last year's tie at their place. So proud of the fight that we showed and the resilience to come back."
