Lloyd Sets School Record as Texas State Advances Athletes to Eugene

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Texas State track and field added four more NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifiers Friday at the NCAA West First Round, highlighted by school-record performances and a pair of men's high jump advancements at John McDonnell Field.

Aiden Hayes and Tshephang Dankuru were the first Bobcats to secure national qualifying berths in the men's high jump.

Hayes advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the second consecutive season after clearing 2.20 meters to finish second overall. The senior recorded just one missed attempt throughout the competition before securing his spot in Eugene.

Dankuru also earned a trip to the national meet after clearing 2.20 meters to finish seventh. The freshman successfully cleared the height on his third attempt to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his first collegiate outdoor season.

In the men's discus, Danie Strooh narrowly missed advancing to Eugene. Strooh finished 16th with a mark of 55.77 meters, recorded on his final attempt, ending four places shy of a qualifying position.

On the track, freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd continued his standout season by qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 110-meter hurdles. Lloyd clocked a school-record 13.28 seconds to earn an automatic qualifying position and lower his own program record.

Drew Donley added another national qualifier for Texas State in the men's 200 meters. Donley ran 20.59 seconds to secure one of the final qualifying spots and advance to Eugene.

Mihajlo Katanic narrowly missed qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles despite posting a personal-best time of 50.35 seconds. Katanic finished 15th overall, three places outside the qualifying cutoff.

Texas State will conclude competition Saturday at the NCAA West First Round. Cassandra Rendon is scheduled to compete in the women's discus beginning at 1 p.m.
