SAN MARCOS, Texas – A big week at the plate for Texas State's
Jaquae Stewart saw him rack up weekly conference and national honors. He was selected as the Sun Belt Conference's Player of the Week, named Perfect Game's National Player of the Week and chosen to Baseball America's College Team of the Week.
Â
The redshirt junior batted .421 (8-for-19) with five home runs, 17 RBI and posted a 1.640 OPS in helping the Bobcats to three victories, including one over then 18th-ranked Texas A&M. In the upset win over the Aggies, he went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI with two coming on the go-ahead single in the seventh inning.
Â
Stewart would drive in a run in the 10-0 victory in seven innings the next day against Stephen F. Austin. The Sinton, Texas native began the series against Troy with a 2-for-4 day at the plate that included hitting a game-tying three-run homer. He wrapped up the series against the Trojans by going 3-for-5 with three home runs and eight RBI to become the first Bobcat to record such a performance since 2024.
Â
With Stewart's Sun Belt award, it marks the third time in the past four weeks that a Texas State player has claimed the player of the week honor alongside
Ethan Farris (Apr. 7) and
Rashawn Galloway (Mar. 24). Overall, the Bobcats have picked up five conference honors this year as
Kyle Froehlich (Feb. 17) and
Jesus Tovar (Feb. 24) were pitcher of the week recipients. It is the most Sun Belt awards since a record-setting seven were received in 2022.
Â
Next up for Stewart and Texas State is a meeting tonight against HCU at 6 p.m. from Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark.
