Texas State Hosts Future Pac-12 Foe Washington State for a Four-Game Series

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final weekend of non-conference play will see Texas State (9-2) host future Pac-12 Conference foe Washington State (5-6) for a four-game series at Bobcat Ballpark.
 
Contests on Thursday and Friday will both start at 6 p.m. followed by a 2:30 p.m. first pitch on Saturday. The series finale on Sunday is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
 
The games on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday will be streamed on ESPN+ while Friday's contest is going to be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 FM. Live stats will be available for all four contests.

Thursday: TXST RHP Sam Hall (0-0) vs. WSU RHP Luke Meyers (1-1)
Friday: TXST RHP Kyle Froehlich (2-0) vs. WSU LHP Nick Lewis (0-1)
Saturday: TXST LHP Nolan Moore (1-0) vs. WSU RHP Griffin Smith (1-1)
Sunday: TXST LHP Jesus Tovar (3-0) vs. WSU LHP Gavin Derr (0-0)
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak, the team's longest since 2023. This past weekend saw them win all three games to claim the inaugural College Baseball Series in Cleburne, Texas title. Manny Salas was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player that included hitting a three-run homer in the event clinching victory over Abilene Christian on Sunday.
 
Salas enters the series leading TXST with a .421 batting average. The first baseman has hit two homers, driven in seven runs and scored nine times. Jaquae Stewart is hitting .400 with two triples, two long balls, nine runs and nine RBI. Leadoff man Jackson Cotton has drawn a team-high 10 walks and is batting .333 with a squad best three home runs and 11 runs scored.
 
Dawson Park leads the way with 11 RBI while Rashawn Galloway and Chase Mora have scored 10 runs apiece.
 
Getting the start in Thursday's series opener will be Sam Hall, who has struck out four in 2.0 innings over two midweek starts. Kyle Froehlich will get the ball for the fourth consecutive Friday night. He is 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA, 17 walks and just one walk in 13.2 innings. Freshman Nolan Moore sports a 0.60 ERA and 15 punch outs in 15.0 innings in three starts. Rounding out the weekend rotation will be Jesus Tovar. The left-hander has yet to allow a run in 19.0 innings and has a staff-high 19 strikeouts.
 
ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE
The Cougars come to San Marcos having won two straight games over Long Beach State to split the weekend after losing two against BYU last Thursday and Friday. WSU also split a four-game series at Cal Polya and dropped the opening weekend series at Alabama. The Cougars are in the midst of playing 19 consecutive games on the road before their home opener on Mar. 20 against Grand Canyon.
 
Max Hartman leads the team with a .351 average, 12 runs and five stolen bases. He has driven in seven runs and has hit one of the team's two homers along with Ryan Skjonsby, who has a team-high nine RBI. Also batting over .300 is Trevor Smith at .302. Gavin Roy (.282) and Dustin Robinson (.286) have eight and nine RBI, respectively.
 
Getting the ball on Thursday night will be Luke Meyers, who has struck out eight in 15.1 innings over four games with three starts. Friday start Nick Lewis has also recorded eight strikeouts in 14.2 innings spanning three starts and has a 4.30 ERA. Griffin Smith has a 5.40 ERA having thrown 15.0 innings in four games and has started three of them heading into Saturday's contest. Rounding out the rotation will be left-hander Gavin Derr, who has a 7.94 ERA in 5.2 innings.
 
SERIES VS. COUGARS
Texas State leads the all-time series 5-3 and has won four of the last five meetings. Last time the teams met was in the Karbach Round Rock Classic in 2024 that saw the Bobcats claim the contest 13-4.
 
Only previous time the teams have met in San Marcos was for a four-game series to being the 2016 season. Texas State won the first three games of the weekend before dropping the finale 9-8 in 10 innings.
