Runarsdottir, Lloyd Earn Sun Belt Weekly Honors Following UTSA Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State track and field earned Sun Belt Conference weekly honors following standout performances at the UTSA Invitational to open the outdoor season.

Junior Elisabet Runarsdottir was named Sun Belt Women's Field Athlete of the Week after delivering a record-breaking performance in the women's hammer throw.

She opened the season with a mark of 71.41 meters, which ranks No. 1 in the nation and is the only throw over 70 meters this season.

The mark broke both the UTSA Invitational meet record and the Park West Athletic Complex facility record, while also tying the Icelandic national record.

A native of Kópavogur, Iceland, Runarsdottir is coming off an indoor season in which she captured the Sun Belt weight throw title and earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors.

Freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd was named Sun Belt Men's Track Athlete of the Week after winning two events in his outdoor debut.

Lloyd claimed the 110-meter hurdles title with a time of 13.62 seconds, which ranks No. 2 nationally, before adding a victory in the 400-meter hurdles with a time that ranks No. 11 in the country.

Lloyd is following up a historic indoor campaign in which he was named Sun Belt Men's Indoor Freshman of the Year. He also earned high-point scorer honors at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships with 29.5 points, the most by an individual at the meet since 2011.

Runarsdottir and Lloyd will return to action this weekend when Texas State hosts the Charles Austin Classic on March 27-28 at the Texas State Track & Field Complex.
