Tennis Opens Conference Play With Two Matches in Troy

SAN MARCOS, TexasTexas State women's tennis opens Sun Belt Conference play this weekend in Troy, Alabama, competing at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats begin the trip Friday at 1 p.m. against Troy before facing Georgia State on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the same venue.

Texas State enters conference play with an 8-4 overall record and a two-match winning streak. The Bobcats are 3-2 in true road matches this season and 0-2 at neutral sites.

Senior Ireland Simme has led the way in singles, compiling an 8-2 record across courts two through four while winning her last six matches. In doubles, Simme and freshman Olivia Collins have formed a strong pairing, posting a 7-2 record on court one.

The sophomore-freshman tandem of Charlotte Roesch and Stoney Cooks remains unbeaten on court two with a 6-0 record. 

Sophomores Tadiwa Mauchi and Chantajah Mills have also contributed with a 5-2 record while competing on courts two and three.

Troy enters Friday's match at 6-6 overall and on a two-match winning streak, earning recent road victories over Alcorn State (7-0) and Nicholls (4-0). The Trojans are 2-3 at home and 4-3 on the road this season.

The Trojans are led by seniors Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva, along with junior Leena Metwally. Guirguis holds a 9-0 singles record on court one, while Laydner is 7-2 across courts two and three. Metwally has compiled an 8-1 singles mark, primarily on courts two and three.

Texas State won last season's meeting, 4-0. Live stats and a live stream will be available for Friday's match.

Georgia State enters Saturday's match with a 5-7 record and a two-match winning streak, including road wins over Alabama A&M (7-0) and Alabama State (4-3). 

The Panthers are 2-0 at home and 3-7 on the road this season and have not competed at a neutral site.

Georgia State is led by senior Maria Paredes and juniors Sara Radojevic and Sveva Bernardi.

The Panthers won the most recent meeting in 2024, 4-3.
