Simme Earns SBC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

SAN MARCOS, Texas– Senior Ireland Simme has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week following an undefeated weekend in road competition.

Simme went 4-0 over the weekend, earning two wins each in singles and doubles play to help Texas State post back-to-back victories away from home.

On Friday against St. Mary's, Simme teamed with freshman Olivia Collins on court one in doubles, defeating Janel Ospanova and Selinu Wu, 6-3. She followed with a straight-set singles win on court four, topping Isabella Olsson, 6-1, 6-2.

The pair remained unbeaten on Sunday, as Simme and Collins earned a 6-1 doubles victory on court one against UTRGV's Mariia Bakhtina and Barbara Martinez. Simme completed the weekend sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 singles win on court four over Luna Buijtenhuijs.

Simme is now 2-1 in singles play this spring, including a perfect 2-0 mark on court four. Her lone loss came on court three against No. 11 ITA Preseason Newcomer Edda Mamedova of No. 6 Oklahoma in a closely contested match, 6-3, 4-6, 11-9.

The honor continues a strong stretch for Simme, who is coming off a historic 2024–25 campaign in which she posted a perfect 15-0 singles record on courts five and six. She was named the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year and earned All-Conference Second Team honors in doubles.

Simme and the Bobcats return to action this weekend as Texas State opens its home slate, hosting New Mexico State on Friday at noon before facing Sam Houston State on Sunday, also at noon, at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
